Naomi's mom who is originally from The Dominican Republic visited us at the kindergarten. She decided to prepare their traditional dish for us to taste – salty fried bananas.
During that time a girl called Carla from Barcelona was also with us. She is studying to be a kindergarten teacher. We listened to a conversation between two Spanish speaking ladies. Carla had been speaking Spanish to the children for nine weeks. It was interesting to see how the children followed her cues and learned to respond to basic questions. Carla taught them a song about a little boy and body parts. Huan Pequenio bayla. The children performed the song in front of their parents as they memorized it pretty quickly.

Carla loved our ideas and the inclusion of parents and grandparents at our kindergarten.

Naomi speaks either Slovenian or Spanish to her mom. Naomi's mom also prepared a scalded sausage besides the bananas. The children marveled at the fried bananas but still managed to finish them all. After they were done tasting the delicacies from The Dominican Republic, she invited the children to dance. The dance is very rhythmical and entertaining. It is called merengue. We all danced and had fun. Naomi was the happiest of us all since she was able to translate her mother's words. She was very proud of her.
