This article is about three topics that are often encountered in both every day activities but also as project topics. Here we will share how we approach these topics when we are working with very young learners/explorers (2 - 4 years old).

Animals are an always interesting topic for children regardless of their age.

When we explore different types of animals we always try to provide children with different types of materials to explore as well as different way for them to express what they observed.

When choosing an animal to explore we like to follow children's interests as well as their ideas on how to approach the subject. We also use some of the evens from the international calendar such as Save the Elephants Day and Unicorn Day

  • Wolrd Tuna Day by watching eduactional video and making it
  • Z is for Zebra so children were creating it using their imagination without teacher's help
  • Pet Day through making their own pet

Approaching literacy with young children can be very tricky and often times met with resistance. It is in every child's nature to move, to be active and to explore with their senses. That is why it is important to enable children with the ability to create and explore while approaching the subject of letters and literacy.

  • Letter y is for yacht so, they are designing their own yacht
  • Letter w is for window, so children were making windows with curtains
  • making 3D letter r upper and lower cases
  • letter S is for Snowman
  • Letter t is for taxi so they are painting their own taxi

Travelling by car or means of public transportation is almost an everyday activity for children. That is why they show a lot of interest in exploring and playing with vehicles.

When children are already familiar with the topic it is much easier for them to engage both in verbal and in practical aspects of activities.

  • painting a train
  • connecting a body of a train
  • Topic Transport - school bus colouring and folding technique to form a school bus
