Visiting 1st Primary School of the Port of Hersonissos

1st Primary School of the Port of Hersonissos is situated near the port of Hersonissos, one of the most famous and attractive tourist destinations in Crete. Our home place is 25 km away from Heraklion, and Knossos, the capital of the Minoan civilization.
There are 195 pupils in our school, aged 6-12 and 25 teachers of various expertises. Apart from general teachers our school is staffed with specialized teachers for Fine Arts, Informatics, Theatre/Drama, Music, Sports, Dance, English, French and German language. There is also a specialized teacher for children with learning difficulties and another one to teach Greek to the newcomers.
1st Primary School of the Port of Hersonissos was our host in our transnational teacher Training activity. Through the topics, we were introduced with different ways on how to use music and art in every day exploration and teaching activities; how to create and follow through with activities initiated by children on the topic of multiculturalism; and how to engage parents in different types of activities.

To better comprehend how do our partners from 1st Primary School of the Port of Hersonissos use culture as a topic through music and art we were given an opportunity by our hosts to explore and experience their culture and the spirit of inclusiveness first hand.
3) cooperation with parents:
We had an opportunity to meet with the mayor of Hersonissos and to talk about the Educational system in Greece as well as plans for the future.
Thank you for the wonderful time we had and all the new experiences and knowledges we gained. It was a wonderful way to finish our final transnational teacher Training activity.
