At the initiative of the Council of Europe, Strasbourg, the European Day of Languages has been celebrated every year since 2001 on 26 September.

This year we celebrated it within our project. Since our project is all about inclusion and equality we also included languages that children speak but are outside of European continent.

In Landakotsskóli we celebrate the international language day. We made a tree and we wrote "hello" in the 32 languages spoken by our students at home! We hang it on the tree.

At Horizons we explored languages children speak at home and prepared different poster. One presents an autumn language tree in a way similar to that of our friend in Iceland, while the other one relates to European countries and their flags.

To help children experience the languages fully we also made audio and video recordings where they can hear each other speak in different languages
