Dec, Jan & Feb at Östra Göinge kommun Stormhattens förskola

December month for us is about Christmas time. We bake and make different decorations. We try to be out in the snow when it finally comes.

We begin to celebrate that Christmas is on its way 1/12. We create, paint and bake. We created the reindeer by painting on hand and pressing it on a paper. Then they decorated the eyes nose and mouth.

When the snow finally arrived we were out there and the children built snowmen, which they then painted when we came in.

Then it was time to celebrate Lucia 13/12.

We have a tradition that the kids from high school come to us and sings. It is much appreciated by both children and our teachers. It is usually children who have been with us when they were small.

Then it's time to celebrate with the children at the nursery, with gingerbread cookies and juice that they have baked. We usually have a small Christmas party before they go on vacation. We sing, play and dance around the Christmas tree.

During January we have been working around water.

Our oldest child wanted to build a water garden outdoors. The children suggested we build it in the sandbox at our farm. They had to decide what kind material we would use. Children determined that we would go to the woods and see if we found something there that we could build with. We went to the woods and watched. They picked sticks. tree branches, rocks and pine cones. When we came back from the forest, we started with our construction. They had to figure out how big it would be.

They measured and dug until they were satisfied with the size. We discussed whether we could pour water directly on the sand. The children stated that it was not possible for the water would drain through the sand. Some of the kids said we were put in plastic so that the water remained in the pond. Then they began to build houses around the pond. Kids got through this project to work on both logical thinking and mathematical thinking. The cooperation between the kids were fantastic, they helped each other all the time.

In February we have continued to work with water. Now we examine what sinks and what floats. We began by filling a bathtub with water. Poured a few drops of paint, so that it was easier to see what floats and what sinks. The kids got to choose materials that would be used. They thought it carefully before they replied, if it would float or sink. Through their cognitive thinking created the reality that children respond and react to.

The preschool should strive that every child: develop their curiosity and their desire and ability to play and learn
