Being able to learn together is very exciting.

In this example of good practice we present how a topic can be introduced through inclusion of parents in the activity itself. The accent is placed on peer learning as well as on broadening ones horizons through first hand experiences.

We often cooperate with another kindergarten class - Krtki. We showed them what we had learned about birds, so they returned the favor and taught us about symbols.

This is also how we got to know Iceland at first. We watched a short movie about Iceland. Then a boy called Liam from the Krtki class told us about a volcano eruption. He included a project he had been working on at home with some help from his parents. We all found it very interesting, especially the geysers - hot water outside in the cold.

France

We learned many interesting facts about France. They were presented by Mr. Gayet, our student Tim's father. France is much bigger than Slovenia.

In France people speak French.

They like to eat sweets, drink wine and eat smelly cheese.

They also eat frogs and snails.

They are famous for the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame Cathedral.

There are many beautiful castles in France.

They love playing football, rugby and cyling.

We learned a new song Jean Petite qui danse and also danced together.

We took a photo together... we all became French for a day.

Tim taught us to count to ten in French. He often teaches us a French word or two.

Mrs. Komac

POLAND

Mrs. Komac visited us. She's our student Lidija's mom. She used to live in Poland but now lives in Slovenia. When she visited us she was wearing the Polish National Costume. She showed us Poland on the map, its flag and coat of arms. She also brought Polish money for us to see. She brought several children's books and presented some of the most famous people from Poland (Copernicus, Pope John Paul II, ski jumpers Adam Małysz and Kamil Stoch). We also watched a famous Polish cartoon Bolek & Lolek.

Polish Zloty

She showed us the most famous building in Poland, the Main Market Square in Krakow. The children then tried to build it out of Legos.

We learned to prepare pierogies, a traditional Polish dish.

The children really enjoyed rolling and stuffing the dough but they loved the cooked dish even more. Some of them even asked us the following day about when we would be making pierogies again.

Our Lidija is teaching us how to count in Polish. She also taught us some new words, like "friend", "good afternoon", "bon appetit"...

When Lidija got back from visiting her relatives in Krakow, she described all the trips they took and brought us some hand-made Polish candy.

When we were working on our family tree in autumn she also named all of her relatives in Polish.
