The second part of our first transnational project meeting took place in Vrtec Pedenjped in the beautiful city of Ljubljana - the capital of Slovenia.
Unlike in the first part of the meeting where we dealt with technical aspects of this project in this part of the meeting we went in depth with the topic of our project drawing out guidelines on how to proceed with our teaching work.
We began the meeting by talking about the multicultural environment and how in now days it is created by technology and individuals. We opened our eyes to the fact that such environment is very enriching but also brings its challenges in the teaching practices. We stressed out the fact that in such environment, as much as the teachers influence the children/pupils, the children/pupils also influence the teachers.
We addressed the concept of the basic learning skills that encompasses Maths, Science and Literacy. Taking into consideration the present lifestyle as well as the technology in it we expanded the concept of our project also to Expressive Arts & Design and Physical Development.
We stressed out the importance of individualized approach when working with children and went through Blooms Taxonomy presenting the stages of knowledge and understanding.
We made an additional review on the concept of the basic learning skills. For Math we found it important to accentuate that mathematics can change just as well as those who are learning it. We set out as goals incorporating math and movement as well as using math to gain knowledge and understanding of the world through practical experiences.
When talking about the basic skill of Science we found it important to remind that science mustn't be robbed of creativity because there is more to science than just frontal teaching.
When dealing with the basic skill of literacy it was very important to us to carry the message about the difference between the old and new. When talking about literacy today we do not refer only to reading and writing but media and technology literacy as well. Like with other skills we stressed out the importance of early exploratory foundations that help children develop healthy and positive attitudes towards learning.
On this meeting we also touched the subject of teaching competences and teaching profession. We looked back on how teaching profession changed and evolved over time and how technology became a significant participant in ones teaching. We also pointed out how teaching as a profession truly is a lifelong learning experience that keeps changing us both as individuals and professionals.
For the end of the meeting we once again stressed out the cause and effect circular correlation between teachers and children/pupils.
